Wendover is a large, attractive village on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. The practice serves a population of around 12,000 patients in Wendover and surrounding villages. The population comprises a higher than average elderly population, several residential and nursing homes including adults with Learning Disabilities and a frequently mobile RAF family population.
There are 5 partners and 5 salaried GPs at the practice. We are proud of our large, expert multidisciplinary team and we provide a wide, comprehensive range of services for our patients, including family planning and a dedicated over 75’s team. We are proud to be a learning environment for GP trainees, medical students and offer work experience placements.
In 1998 we formed an innovative partnership with two neighbouring practices to become Westongrove PMS. This has enabled us to adopt a flexible, quality based approach to primary care provision. Wendover is a dynamic and innovative practice which is enthusiastic about the future of primary care. We are committed to sustaining an atmosphere that promotes learning across the organisation including the training of future GPs. As part of the larger Westongrove PMS there is a huge range of expertise and learning opportunities for GP registrars.
Wendover has been training GP registrars for many years and it remains a high priority within the practice. We have 3 enthusiastic trainers, Dr Charles Todd, Dr Alexandra Bates and Dr Libby Symmonds. Dr Todd joined the practice in 2005 having worked in Zimbabwe for 20 years. He is the Clinical Governance lead for Westongrove. His particular interests are general internal medicine with a special focus on thyroid problems. Dr Bates joined the practice in 2004, has a particular interest in women’s health and is a programme director for Buckinghamshire VTS.
